HUNGER PROTEST: 17 FEARED DEAD AS BUSINESSES SHUT DOWN

No fewer than 17 people were feared dead during the #EndBadGovernance protest held across the country on Thursday. One person was shot dead in Abuja, another in Kano, two in Jigawa, six in Niger, four in Borno, and three in Kaduna.

The protest, which began peacefully in major cities, later took a violent turn as thugs allegedly hijacked it, leading to looting, destruction of property, and loss of lives. In response, security operatives fired teargas canisters at protesters who shouted back in defiance.

As the tension and confrontation between the security agencies and protesters increased, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, called for dialogue, saying the government was willing to discuss with the youths.

Wike, in his address during the presentation of the Staff of Office to the newly graded chiefs in Abuja, appealed to protesters to “sit down” with the government and pursue dialogue, describing it as a better peace process.
