Nollywood Film Festival Germany and NEGA 2025 Celebrate African Cinema in Frankfurt

Frankfurt played host to a vibrant celebration of African storytelling as the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) and Nollywood Europe Golden Awards (NEGA) wrapped up a two-day cultural showcase over the weekend. The festival, which ran from August 8–9, gathered filmmakers, actors, cultural leaders, and dignitaries for an event that spotlighted African cinema and fostered intercultural exchange.

Speaking at the opening, Izoya described the festival as “a gateway for Africans who now look forward to Frankfurt as an annual cultural holiday destination,” pledging continued commitment to intercultural integration. Ambassador Dadu also praised the initiative as “a perfect start to a global celebration of Nollywood,” highlighting its role in projecting Nigeria’s image positively.

The festival climaxed on August 9 with the NEGA Gala Night at Goethe University, Frankfurt, where trailblazers in Nollywood were honored for their outstanding contributions. Among the awardees were Funke Akindele (Nollywood Highest Grossing Movie Director), Charles Inojie (Outstanding Philanthropist), and Rita Edochie (Evergreen Veteran Actor). In his address, Ambassador Dadu commended Izoya’s “cultural diplomacy since 2002” and called for greater institutional support. Live performances by Influence Akaba, Stella Pius, Endibanton, and others electrified the evening before an after-party that kept attendees dancing.

Accepting on behalf of the awardees, Inojie praised the organizers: “Ehizoya Golden Entertainment has done single-handedly what governments should be doing. Supporting this vision benefits Nigeria, Africa, Germany, and Europe at large” Strong diaspora support also echoed throughout the festival. Dr. Moses Ogun, President of NIDO Germany, urged collaboration to expand the platform, while first-time attendee Dr. Emeka Ani described it as “an initiative deserving of full support for the cultural image of Nigeria abroad.” Veteran critic Madam Tina Omoragbon hailed this edition as Izoya’s “best event ever,” while Madam Faith Ogoigbe applauded the film screenings and cultural showcases, already looking ahead to 2026.

Closing the festival, Izoya reaffirmed his mission: “We dream to change the world through film stories. Though we lack capital for productions, we will keep pushing with the hope of support to actualise our dreams. Our motto remains: The Show Must Go On”.
