Osun APC Introduces New Disciplinary Measures Ahead of 2026 Governorship Primary

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled new disciplinary measures to strengthen party discipline ahead of its 2026 governorship primary election.

The resolutions were reached on Thursday during a crucial meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital. The session was presided over by the state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the committee expressed concern over persistent verbal attacks by supporters of different aspirants against fellow aspirants, party leaders and members. It described the trend as harmful to the unity of the party.

In a communiqué signed by Chairman Lawal, the SWC outlawed the involvement of party executive officers at all levels, including reinstated council chairmen and councillors, from acting as coordinators for any governorship aspirant. It also directed aspirants, supporters and spokesmen to avoid abusive or derogatory language during campaigns, warning that violators would face sanctions in line with the party’s constitution.

The committee further prohibited the use of names of revered party leaders or groups to endorse aspirants, stressing that offenders would face strict penalties to be monitored by a disciplinary committee. Coordinators were also cautioned against spreading unverified claims about financial backing from party chieftains, which the SWC said could trigger unnecessary division.

The meeting also discussed a programme requiring the generation of 1,000 names from each ward, reportedly coordinated by a non-governmental organisation. The SWC directed the chairman to investigate the initiative’s authenticity in Abuja and ensure any genuine effort is properly rooted within party structures.

In addition, the committee urged state executive officers to intensify efforts in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration exercise, noting that the current level of participation was inadequate.

Lawal reminded aspirants and their supporters that the ultimate objective remains victory in the 2026 governorship election, not internal conflict. “It is needless to turn fellow members of the same party into arch-enemies because of a primary election,” he said.
