TGIF, Family! Let’s Talk Friendship Friday

Thank God it’s Friday! The week has been long but the vibes are high and nothing makes a Friday sweeter than knowing you’ve got friends to gist, laugh or even argue with until your belly hurts. Friendship is one of life’s biggest blessings. It’s the fuel that makes both the good times and the tough days easier to carry.

Let’s be real our men know how to turn a hangout into comedy night. From football banter (“O boy, Arsenal no fit carry league abeg!”) to revisiting who fainted during Inter-house sports or that guy who still hasn’t paid back the N500 from 2010—these “friendly attacks” are their way of bonding. The louder the gist, the deeper the love. And by the end, everyone’s clinking bottles and laughing at jokes that don’t even make sense to outsiders.

For the mummies and aunties, friendship moments happen everywhere. Whether it’s in the market while pricing pepper, at school runs or in church pews after service, the gist flows. Five minutes of “Let me just tell you this one small thing” turns into an hour-long gist about life, family, children and a sprinkle of fashion advice (“Don’t buy that wrapper, it will wash out!”). By the end, there’s laughter, comfort and maybe even a recipe exchange.

Let’s not forget our youth and students—the squad that makes even boring lectures fun. They’re the ones who still tease you with your childhood nickname, hype you up on Snapchat, cover your back when you oversleep in class or remind you of your embarrassing SS2 crush. These friendships are the building blocks of memories that last forever.

Now, shoutout to those we fell out with too. Maybe a fight, a misunderstanding, or just life pulling us apart. Deep down, the memories still make us smile—because even broken bridges once carried laughter. Sometimes, it’s not about rekindling, but about appreciating the role they played in our journey.

So how do we make the most of this weekend?

  • Call that friend you haven’t spoken to in weeks.
  • Plan a small catch-up—whether it’s pepper soup joint, a walk, a movie, or just long phone gist.
  • If you’re indoors, declutter your space and invite a friend over—it’s amazing how cleaning and laughing together clears your mind too.
  • And most importantly, appreciate them. Let them know you see their effort, their jokes, their loyalty.

Because the truth is, the power of friendship is unmatched. It’s what keeps our hearts light, our minds sane, and our weekends fun. Life gets busy, but friends make the journey sweeter.

Cheers to the people who make life worth laughing about!
