NUJ Digital Media Chapel Backs Ondo Information Commissioner

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit to the commissioner in his office. The delegation, led by Chairman Omoba Adesoye Ajayi, said the visit was to congratulate Ajanaku on his appointment and to assure him of their readiness to work with the ministry in promoting government information and orientation programmes.

Ajayi described Ajanaku as “a journalist par excellence,” noting that his appointment signaled the government’s recognition of media professionals. He said, “This time, we are happy that someone from our constituency is in charge. We are here not only to congratulate you but to assure you of our commitment to project government activities and drive public orientation.”

Ajayi also explained that the Digital Media Chapel is a newly established arm of the NUJ created for practicing journalists not directly affiliated with the state or federal chapels. According to him, the chapel boasts of professionals including professors, PhD holders, NIPR members, and other accomplished media practitioners.

In his response, Ajanaku thanked the chapel for the visit and pledged close collaboration with media professionals. He recalled his journalism career of over 17 years with Vanguard and The Guardian, stressing that digital platforms remain central to the future of journalism. He said, “The future of journalism lies in digital platforms. By 4 a.m., I have already read the day’s major headlines online. That is where the world is going.”

The commissioner outlined his vision for the ministry, with focus on information dissemination, value reorientation, and strategic media partnerships as Ondo State prepares for its 50th anniversary in February 2026. “This ministry is not about propaganda but about information, education, and re-orienting societal values. We will engage media professionals like you to take this message to schools, markets, and communities across the state,” he added.

The chapel reaffirmed its commitment to ethical journalism, digital transformation, and partnership with government for the development of Ondo State.

Executives present at the meeting included Vice Chairman, Mrs Yinka Ogunleye; General Secretary, Mr Olusegun Hosea; Financial Secretary, Mr Richard Ilesanmi; and senior member, Mr Kunle Ajibogun.
