PDP Leaders Visit Kebbi After Rescue Of 24 Schoolgirls, Call For United Action Against Insecurity

A delegation led by PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki met with Governor Nasir Idris and top state officials at the Government House on Thursday. During the meeting, the party stressed the need for communities across Nigeria to confront insecurity with a unified voice, regardless of political, religious or ethnic identity.

Turaki underscored that criminal attacks do not discriminate, noting that kidnappers target anyone without considering background or affiliation. He emphasised that unity remains the strongest weapon against the rising wave of abductions.

He further urged the National Assembly to review the legal powers granted to governors as Chief Security Officers, arguing that existing limitations restrict their ability to respond swiftly and effectively to security challenges.

The PDP delegation commended Governor Idris for the prompt actions that aided the safe rescue of the students. The state government confirmed that all 24 girls were unharmed, medically examined and reunited with their families.

Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida described the visit as an important gesture of national unity, saying it reflects a commitment to prioritising the welfare of citizens above political boundaries.

The meeting ended with renewed calls for stronger cooperation between local communities and security agencies to prevent future attacks and protect schools across Kebbi State.
