Osun Governor Adeleke Quits PDP Over Deepening National Leadership Crisis

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party after months of unresolved disputes within the party’s national leadership. The governor made the disclosure in a statement posted to his Instagram account on Monday night, confirming that his resignation was submitted weeks earlier.

Adeleke explained that his formal letter was delivered to PDP leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025. In the message, he cited the persistent crisis at the party’s national level as his reason for stepping away. He also expressed gratitude to PDP members and supporters for the platform that elevated him to the Senate and later to the governorship of Osun State.

His exit follows earlier indications from the Osun State chapter of the party that Adeleke was unlikely to pursue the PDP ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the prolonged internal conflict was resolved. Party officials had maintained hope that a settlement endorsed by the Independent National Electoral Commission could change the governor’s mind before the close of the commission’s timetable.

The situation had already created uncertainty within the state chapter, with some leaders concerned about the implications of the stalemate on the party’s readiness for the coming poll. Adeleke’s resignation now deepens the uncertainty around the PDP’s prospects in Osun ahead of the critical 2026 race.

Although the governor did not disclose his next political move, his departure from the party signals a potential realignment in Osun politics. Observers say his decision could reshape pre-election dynamics, especially if the PDP fails to resolve the national leadership divide that has lingered for months.
