Tinubu Extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s Tenure, Finalizes Modernization Pact With Netherlands

ABUJA, NIGERIA — In a major move to solidify ongoing fiscal reforms and secure international trade borders, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi.

The extension, announced in a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, pushes Adeniyi’s mandate through to February 2027. According to the Presidency, the decision is strategically designed to allow the Customs chief to consolidate critical trade facilitation programs—most notably the implementation of the flagship National Single Window project aimed at streamlining cargo clearance and maximizing national revenue. During this period, Adeniyi will also work alongside the NCS Board to oversee a smooth leadership transition and manage the statutory promotions and retirements of senior officers.

Simultaneously, the Federal Government has formalized updated bilateral frameworks with the Netherlands focused heavily on Customs Modernization. The international partnership is set to introduce advanced technological infrastructure to Nigeria’s borders, aligning local trade processes with global best practices and strengthening economic ties between both nations.
