Fg Plans to Replace NYCS Khaki Uniform with Adire in Major Reform

The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the traditional khaki uniform worn by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members with locally produced Adire fabric as part of broader reforms aimed at promoting local industries and strengthening Nigeria’s economy.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the proposal during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that the initiative is designed to encourage the use of made-in-Nigeria products and support the country’s textile industry.

According to the minister, the adoption of Adire will boost local production, create opportunities for indigenous textile manufacturers, and ensure government spending benefits Nigerian businesses.

In addition to the proposed uniform change, the Federal Government is reviewing the NYSC posting system to ensure corps members are deployed based on their academic qualifications and professional skills, with the goal of making the one-year national service more impactful and relevant.

The proposed reforms form part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise the NYSC scheme while promoting economic growth through local content development.
