Super Falcons Thrash Zambia 5–0 to Book Semi-Final Spot at WAFCON 2025

The Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered a statement performance on Thursday, extending their unbeaten run at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a resounding 5–0 win over Zambia’s Copper Queens at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.

The victory not only sealed Nigeria’s place in the semi-finals for the 14th consecutive tournament but also reaffirmed their dominance as Africa’s most successful women’s team. With this result, the Falcons remain unbeaten and unscored-upon at the tournament, as they continue their quest for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The goal fest began almost immediately, with Osinachi Ohale heading home from Esther Okoronkwo’s well-delivered free kick in under two minutes. In the 33rd minute, Okoronkwo doubled the lead, calmly finishing a fluid team move. Just before halftime, Chiwendu Ihezuo made it three with a powerful left-footed strike into the bottom corner during added time.

Nigeria showed no signs of slowing down after the break. At the 68th minute, Oluwatosin Demehin added a fourth goal via a close-range header. The rout was complete in the dying moments of the match, when substitute Folashade Ijamilusi slotted home the fifth goal in stoppage time.

The Super Falcons now await the winner of the South Africa vs Senegal clash, with the semi-final fixture set for Tuesday, July 22, once again in Casablanca.
