The reigning African champions sealed their place in the final after a hard-fought 75–68 victory over Senegal in the semi-final clash held on Saturday at the Palais des Sports, Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

In a statement issued Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the team’s unwavering determination, consistency, and dominance in African women’s basketball.

“It seems to be Nigeria’s winning season in sports,” the President remarked, applauding the team’s focus, discipline, and unity, which he said have brought honour to the nation and earned admiration across the globe.

The President also highlighted the significance of D’Tigress qualifying for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, scheduled for March 2026.

He offered special commendation to Head Coach Rena Wakama, the first female to lead the team, for her exemplary leadership and commitment.

“I especially commend Rena Wakama, whose experience both as a player and now a coach continues to inspire the team to greater heights,” Tinubu said.

Reaffirming his full support for the squad, President Tinubu encouraged D’Tigress as they set their sights on a fifth straight AfroBasket title and a record-extending seventh overall, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing presence on the global sports stage.
