FG Reaffirms Commitment to Economic Stability, Food Security

While acknowledging prevailing economic hardship, Dare cautioned against sweeping generalisations that misrepresent the national reality. “The Tinubu administration welcomes criticism, but it must be based on facts, not distortion or selective pessimism,” he said. “No one denies that citizens face challenges, but we must distinguish honest concern from blanket generalisations.”

He noted that the editorial’s claim that 33 million Nigerians, including 16 million children, will face hunger in 2025, has been misinterpreted. The figure, he explained, comes from a Cadre Harmonisé analysis jointly produced by Nigerian authorities, FAO, WFP, and UNICEF, projecting a worst-case scenario for June–August 2025, assuming no intervention by the government or its partners.

Dare stressed that proactive measures have already been taken to avert such outcomes and secure the country’s food supply. These include the release of 42,000 metric tons of grain from reserves, procurement of an additional 117,000 metric tons, activation of the Food Security Council, and the scaling up of emergency nutrition support in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, and Bauchi States.

According to him, President Tinubu is not indifferent to the people’s suffering but is making deliberate and effective efforts to reset the economy, correct years of consumption without productivity, and end policies that favored the powerful. He pointed to signs of recovery, such as a stabilising naira, expanded social protection, investments in food systems, and tuition aid for students.

He further revealed that the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme will target all 8,809 political wards with tailored support for businesses, infrastructure, and food security, as part of the President’s broader vision to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

“The government does not demand silence during hardship; it calls for fairness and shared commitment to rebuilding Nigeria,” Dare concluded, urging Nigerians to unite behind efforts to create a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous nation.
