Atiku Slams Tinubu Administration, Labels It a Threat to Democracy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has once again criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as the greatest threat to Nigeria’s democracy since the country’s return to civil rule.

Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remarks in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday after paying a solidarity visit to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

The PDP chieftain condemned the attack on el-Rufai by alleged All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs during the recent inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State. He described the incident as another sign of growing intolerance under the current administration.

“I reiterated that the activities of the Tinubu-led APC administration pose the greatest risk to our democracy since the return of democratic governance. It is concerning that this administration has turned into a full-blown dictatorship.”

Atiku has consistently criticised the ruling APC government over insecurity, economic challenges, and what he terms its disregard for democratic principles.

The latest statement deepens the political tensions between the PDP and APC as both parties prepare for future elections amid concerns about governance, democracy and civil liberties.
