ADC Condemns Anambra Governorship Election, Calls It a Cash-Soaked Process

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep discontent with the conduct of Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, describing it as a heavily monetised exercise that betrayed democratic principles.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of orchestrating widespread vote buying throughout the state.

Abdullahi criticised the silence of security agencies and the inaction of electoral officials, stating that their failure to act weakened public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

The party maintained that the practice was a blatant breach of the Electoral Act and that institutions responsible for safeguarding the integrity of elections failed to live up to their constitutional duties.

It alleged that security personnel stood idly by while voters were intimidated and compromised, adding that some electoral officials appeared either indifferent or overwhelmed by the scale of malpractice.

Despite the outcome, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a political culture built on honesty, fairness, and service rather than financial inducement. The party emphasised that true leadership must be earned through integrity and inclusion, not through the use of money to manipulate voters.
