Signing of the 2027 National Peace Accord

Aba Accord Signed: Presidential candidates and political party leaders gathered at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja to sign the initial National Peace Accord organized by the National Peace Committee and The Kukah Centre.  

 Stakeholder Participation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. Prominent figures like Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore, and Adewole Adebayo were among the signees.  

 Opposition Concerns: Opposition candidates raised doubts over the pact’s effectiveness. Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Adewole Adebayo criticized the President’s absence, while African Action Congress (AAC) candidate Omoyele Sowore characterized the peace accord as a ceremonial “ritual” unless tied to enforceable legal consequences.
