Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Makes Bold Return Amid Political Tension and Supporter Showdown

After a period marked by political turbulence and personal health challenges, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central made a symbolic return to the National Assembly on Tuesday, declaring gratitude for life and the chance to resume her legislative responsibilities.

In a brief but heartfelt remark during an interview with Arise News, she said “I’m thankful to be alive and back to work,”

Her return follows months of speculation and legal wrangling after her suspension from the Senate in March. Over the weekend, Akpoti-Uduaghan disclosed that she had formally informed the Senate leadership of her intention to resume duties, citing a recent court ruling that favored her position.

On Tuesday morning, the senator arrived at the gates of the National Assembly flanked by a wave of supporters and prominent activists, including Aisha Yesufu, Mama P, and Randy. However, their entry was halted by security operatives, triggering a tense confrontation.

Eyewitnesses reported that security agents denied them access, resulting in a heated back-and-forth. Aisha Yesufu, visibly angered, challenged the restriction, accusing the officers of overstepping their bounds.

“The National Assembly belongs to the people,” she said. “Stopping us doesn’t mean we’ll back down. We’re not cowards.”

The situation intensified as supporters of the senator began chanting “Push!” in protest, trying to break through the security barricade. The crowd soon shifted to a peaceful march towards the complex, singing solidarity songs in defiance of the obstruction.
