President Tinubu Mourns Veteran Journalist, Dr. Doyin Abiola

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist and wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, Dr. Doyinsola Hamidat Abiola.

In a personally signed statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Dr. Abiola as a trailblazer whose contributions to journalism and gender equity laid a strong foundation for future generations of women. He also noted that her influence on Nigeria’s democratic journey was even more significant.

“Doyin embodied integrity, tenacity, hard work, a commitment to excellence, and an unwavering dedication to the public good and democratic governance,” the President said.

He further remarked, “Nigerians will never forget Doyin Abiola’s leadership throughout her distinguished career in journalism, her tireless advocacy for women’s empowerment, and her deep commitment to democracy.”

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Abiola and Aboaba families, her daughter, Doyinsola, as well as the governments and people of Lagos and Ogun States.

“May her soul rest in peace. May our nation be blessed with more women of Doyin Abiola’s calibre and pedigree,” he concluded.

Dr. Doyin Abiola passed away peacefully at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday after a brief illness.
