CULTURAL PRIDE ACTIVATED

The Ever-vibrant Ondo city is set to come alive again as the much anticipated Annual Odun Oba Festival also known as ODUNBAMI which marks the beginning of a new year for the Ondo indigenes and also a new planting season is set to commence this July. The festival is deeply rooted in traditional heritage, showcases the rich customs of the Ekimogun Indigenes and also pays homage to the OSEMAWE, the Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom

In a lineup of events, the High Chiefs , Chiefs, Female Chiefs, King’s wives, Princes and Princesses and the entire Ondo community take turns to pay homage to the king, preceding the event is Udijo- the traditional announcement of the actual Odun Oba day which is usually nine days to the main event, it is followed by Ughasu- the OTU Chiefs headed by the LOGBOSERE of Ondo kingdom dance in their hierarchy to pay homage which leads into the main event ODUN OBA.

The Odun Oba day is in two parts, one for all Chiefs, Olojas, Baales and the community and the second part for the Eghaes-High Chiefs with the Grand Finale as the Oba nkomoe (the king greets his Children) here, the king greets his children, the Otunbas, the female chiefs(Opojis) bearing gifts in hand to pay homage.

As the community prepares to host the rich festival, excitement continues to build. From colors of different Aso-Oke to prayers and parades, every event in between reflects the deep connection between the people and their heritage.
