WellnessWednesday: Women, Wellness and the Power of Paying Attention

A very beautiful Wednesday morning to all our amazing women out there — the mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, friends, and professionals holding things down in their own unique ways. Today, we’re talking about something deeply important, women’s health, especially breast health because October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month but taking care of ourselves is a year-round duty.

Here’s the truth — women are natural nurturers. We take care of everyone: work deadlines, home duties, family, friends, even neighbors. But when was the last time you stopped to check in on you? When last did you do a self-exam, go for a health check-up or simply rest without guilt? Too often, women push through pain or discomfort because “there’s still work to do.” But real strength isn’t just enduring — it’s listening to your body.

Breast cancer doesn’t announce itself with a microphone, it starts small. A little lump, a change in shape, a discharge or a skin difference. That’s why regular self-examination is so powerful. Once a month, after your menstrual cycle, take a few minutes in front of the mirror. Feel for lumps, check for changes and don’t ignore discomfort. If something feels off, please visit a health professional. Early detection saves lives, many lives.

It’s not just about the big things like hospital visits. It’s about sleeping well, eating right, staying hydrated and managing stress. It’s about that short evening walk, choosing fruits over constant junk and learning to say “no” when your body says “rest.” It’s also about emotional health, talk about your feelings, ask for help, cry when you need to, laugh when you can.

🎗️ To our women battling breast cancer, you are seen, you are strong and your courage lights up the world.

And to every woman reading this, remember — self-care is not selfish; it’s survival. Check yourself. Encourage your sisters, mothers and friends to do the same. Share information, not fear. Awareness is power.

So today, let’s take a moment to honor the women who are fighting, those who have survived and those we’ve lost. Let’s choose to love our bodies enough to care for them.
