Ondo Police Confirm Abduction of Two AAUA Staff, One Rescued

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), by suspected gunmen on Monday evening.

The victims were reportedly taken from their residence in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state. One of the abducted individuals, identified as Omoniyi Eleyinmi, is a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the institution.

Sources revealed that Eleyinmi was kidnapped around 7:00 p.m. on Monday at his residence located along Supare-Akoko Road in Akungba-Akoko.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday in Akure, the state Police Public Relations Officer SP Olushola Ayanlade told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that swift police action led to the rescue of one of the victims.

“Yes, two AAUA staff were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers” he said. “However, our men responded promptly and successfully rescued one of the victims”.

He added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the rescued staff member to be debriefed to provide intelligence that may aid the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining victim.

Security operations are reportedly underway to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the second abductee.
