Divorce: Abuja housewife promises to return bride price to estranged husband

A case before the Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Abuja, has attracted attention after Fatima Lawal asked the court to dissolve her marriage to Saifullahi Ademu, which she said had lasted one year and five months. Why she wants the marriage dissolved

According to her testimony: She alleged that her husband constantly beat her.She claimed he failed to provide for her financially.She told the court she no longer believed he loved her and said she had “no peace” in the marriage.

Property dispute: Lawal further alleged that her husband sold some of her belongings without her consent, including:A cooking pot valued at ₦70,000A bedsheet worth ₦40,000A mobile phone worth ₦20,000She asked the court to order him to compensate her ₦230,000 for the items.

As regards Bride price, She told the court she was willing to refund the ₦90,000 bride price paid at the time of their marriage under Sharia law if it would facilitate the divorce

Husband’s response: Ademu denied all the allegations. The presiding judge, Mohammed Shomo, directed the petitioner to produce witnesses and adjourned the matter to July 6, 2026, for further hearing.
