Aisha Yesufu Challenges Deji Adeyanju to Present Evidence Against Peter Obi in Court

Adeyanju has on multiple occasions described Obi as a “fraud,” insisting that he has valid proof to support his claims. He also recently accused the former Labour Party presidential candidate of being a manipulator and a religious bigot, remarks that many Nigerians believe may be politically motivated and allegedly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In response, Peter Obi has filed a lawsuit against Adeyanju, demanding that he provide evidence in court to substantiate the allegations.

Weighing in on the matter, Yesufu—well known as a co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign and a strong supporter of Obi—stated that there was no need for a war of words. Instead, she said Adeyanju should take advantage of the legal process to present whatever evidence he claims to have.

She noted that the case would provide her and millions of other Obi supporters the opportunity to review the facts and decide whether to continue backing him. In a post shared on X, she wrote:

“Barrister Deji Adeyanju has repeatedly said that he has evidence to show that Mr. Peter Obi is a fraud and that Mr. Obi should sue him. This is a lawyer speaking! As a supporter of Mr. Obi, I am interested in the evidence the barrister has. I would not be one to give support to anyone that is fraudulent, so this case will offer me and millions of others the opportunity to access the evidence and know whether to continue our support for Mr. Obi or withdraw it.”

Yesufu added that Obi’s decision to pursue the matter legally was the proper civic response. According to her, if Obi had chosen instead to use state machinery to detain Adeyanju—as has often been the case with authoritarian governments—she would have been among the first to campaign for his release.

“As For now, #LetsHaveTheEvidence” she concluded.
