Dangote Refinery Terminates Employment of Nigerian Workers Amid Union Dispute.

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian workers in what it described as a reorganisation exercise.

The development was revealed on Wednesday in a statement shared on X by political commentator, Imran Wakili, who alleged that the move came less than 24 hours after 90 percent of the workers joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

According to Wakili, a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, stated that the decision followed a “total re-organisation” of the refinery after reported cases of sabotage in some units of the plant.

The memo directed affected employees to return all company property to their line managers and obtain exit clearance. It also instructed the finance department to process benefits and entitlements for payment in line with the terms of employment.

While thanking the dismissed workers for their contributions, the refinery’s management insisted the decision was necessary to reposition operations.

The latest development comes amid an ongoing trade dispute between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN over unionisation rights.
