NDLEA Chairman Marwa Says Nigeria Needs Discipline, Loyalty and Resilience to Overcome Challenges

Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd), says Nigeria’s path to overcoming insecurity, economic instability and social fragmentation lies in raising citizens who embody discipline, loyalty, and resilience.

Marwa made the call on Saturday night in Abuja during the 38th-anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Military School (NMS) Class of 1982. He stressed that character remains the foundation of nation-building and the true strength of any country.

He commended the Class of 1982 for producing two serving Service Chiefs—the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar—describing it as a historic achievement. He also applauded the set’s contributions to their alma mater, noting that their projects symbolised gratitude and enduring loyalty.

“Our country today needs more than soldiers with weapons. She needs citizens with character, men and women armed with courage, loyalty, discipline and resilience” Marwa said.

An alumnus of NMS himself, Marwa linked the school’s values of discipline, unity, and loyalty to the broader qualities Nigeria urgently requires to confront its crises.

Founded in 1954, the Nigerian Military School in Zaria has produced generations of military officers and public servants who have played critical roles in national development. Marwa noted that such institutions not only train soldiers but also nurture citizens equipped with inner strength and character to lead with integrity
