Governor Aiyedatiwa Gifts SUVs to Ondo Monarchs, Reaffirms Commitment to Traditional Institutions

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Aiyedatiwa described the gesture as a historic milestone in strengthening the bond between the government and traditional rulers while advancing development across the state.

“As custodians of our cultural heritage, preservers of our values and the closest link between government and the grassroots, our administration recognises your importance and will never neglect your welfare,” he said.

The governor highlighted several steps taken to improve the welfare of traditional leaders, including the completion of the long-abandoned secretariat for the Council of Obas and the consistent payment of the statutory five per cent allocation from local government funds to traditional institutions.

“Today, all Grade ‘A’ Obas will go home with a Toyota Fortuner Jeep, 2025 Model, while Grade ‘B and C’ Obas will soon receive Toyota Cross Jeep, 2025 Model — both are among the latest Toyota brand vehicles known globally for excellence and durability,” he added.

According to Aiyedatiwa, the vehicles represent symbols of dignity, respect, and recognition of the vital role traditional rulers play in sustaining peace and promoting development across the state.

He urged the monarchs to continue supporting his administration’s efforts toward peace, unity, and progress, assuring them that their welfare would remain a top priority.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the governor for fulfilling his promise to enhance the welfare of traditional rulers. He noted that the gesture was a mark of appreciation for the monarchs’ role in maintaining harmony and driving community development.

In his remarks, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, commended the governor’s generosity, describing the gesture as timely and well-deserved. He assured that the traditional rulers would continue to support the government in advancing the state’s development goals.
