Ondo State Unveils 30-Year Development Blueprint, “ONDO 2056”

Ondo State has unveiled an ambitious 30-year development plan tagged ONDO 2056, designed to transform the state into a centre of innovation, inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.

The blueprint was officially launched during a two-day Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop held in Akure, where experts, community leaders and citizens convened to finalise the long-term roadmap for the state’s future.

Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Laolu Akindolire, described the document as a scientifically grounded and stakeholder-driven strategy aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Nigeria’s Agenda 2050, and the state’s OUR EASE policy “This workshop is more than a formality. It deepens the ownership and legitimacy of the ONDO 2056 Plan. We are shaping a future where every citizen has a voice and a stake” Akindolire stated.

The ONDO 2056 blueprint sets out long-term objectives across key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, technology, security, and environmental resilience. It provides a framework for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to implement coordinated short- and medium-term actions that align with the state’s collective vision.

Describing the initiative as a “landmark event” Akindolire noted that the ONDO 2056 blueprint encapsulates the collective aspirations of the people, charting a clear path for sustained development over the next three decades.

The Administrative Secretary of the Economic Planning and Coordinating Office, Mr. Bamidele Daisi, hailed the plan as “a roadmap for inclusive growth, sustainability and long-term prosperity” commending Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership and the Commissioner for steering the process.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, Chairman of the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation; Mrs. Adeola Fynch, representative of the Akure South Local Government Chairman; and Oba Adeola Adebiyi Oyinbade, the Oloba of Uso, representing the State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Technical sessions were led by Prof. Adegboyega Oguntade and Prof. Tomola Obamuyi of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), who provided expert insights to enrich the policy framework.
