NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze and Thunderstorms Across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast warning of dust haze and thunderstorms expected across various parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday. The agency urged citizens to remain alert and adopt safety measures during the period.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted a slight dust haze over Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna States on Monday, while other northern areas are expected to experience sunny conditions. It added that isolated thunderstorms are likely in parts of southern Taraba during the afternoon and evening.

For the central region, NiMet projected sunny skies with patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms are expected later in Benue and Kogi States. The southern states will experience cloudy weather with chances of light morning rainfall, followed by late morning thunderstorms in Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States. Moderate rainfall is anticipated by evening across Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.

On Tuesday, the agency forecast a sunny and hazy atmosphere over northern Nigeria, while isolated thunderstorms are expected in southern Taraba during the afternoon and evening. The central states, including Kogi, Benue, and Kwara, will experience sunny skies with cloudy patches and isolated thunderstorms later in the day. In the southern region, cloudy conditions are anticipated in the morning over Ogun, Lagos, and Cross River, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening across Ogun, Edo, Enugu, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.

For Wednesday, NiMet projected sunny conditions over the northern region and partly cloudy skies across the central states, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain expected in Kwara, Benue, and Kogi States during the afternoon and evening. The southern region will see cloudy weather in the morning across Cross River, Rivers, and Delta States, followed by moderate thunderstorms later in the day across Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
