Unity Beyond Politics: Lawmakers Rally in Gombe for Dankwambo’s Family Wedding

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerian leaders to rise above political divisions in the interest of national development. Akpabio made the call on Saturday during the wedding ceremony of Hafsat Dankwambo, daughter of Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, in Gombe State. The high-profile ceremony drew over 70 lawmakers from across party lines and regions.

Speaking at the gathering, Akpabio commended the show of unity among members of the political class, noting that such occasions should serve as a reminder of the strength in national cohesion. “We are gathered here — APC, PDP, Christians, Muslims — not for politics, but to celebrate love and family. This is the Nigeria we want: a united country without bias or sectional interest,” he said.

Joining in the goodwill messages, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, advised the new couple to embrace mutual respect and transparency. He highlighted the importance of marriage as a reflection of trust and partnership. Similarly, former Senate President Bukola Saraki commended the families involved, stating that the occasion was proof that “beyond the chambers, we are one big family.”

In his vote of thanks, Governor Yahaya expressed his appreciation to the dignitaries present, noting that Gombe remains a hub of peace and unity. The event not only celebrated a new union but also symbolised the possibility of bridging divides in Nigeria’s political space through shared values and mutual respect.
