Dangote Commits $10 Billion to Africa’s Power Crisis as Energy Sector Reforms Expand

The Dangote Group announced a major strategic shift to invest over $10 billion into Africa’s power sector over the next three to four years. Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera, Aliko Dangote explained that the conglomerate is considering reallocating funds from other ventures, including its planned steel business, directly into power generation and infrastructure to address the continent’s severe electricity deficits.

The development aligns with ongoing national energy reforms led by Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, who recently reiterated that there are no immediate plans for an electricity tariff hike, citing new capital investments and daily power generation exceeding 5,000MW. Concurrently, the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) continues to attract widespread attention as the enterprise expands refining capacity toward 1.4 million barrels per day.
