Nigeria Battles Benin Republic for 2026 World Cup Spot

All eyes will be on Uyo today as Nigeria’s Super Eagles take on Benin Republic in their final Group C fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Akwa Ibom.

Benin, managed by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, sit comfortably at the top of the group with 17 points — three ahead of Nigeria. Rohr’s men need only a draw to confirm their ticket to the World Cup, while the Eagles must secure victory to stand any chance of qualification.

Although it remains a three-way battle for the top spot, Benin holds the upper hand heading into today’s decider. South Africa, who face Rwanda in another key fixture, will also be hoping results elsewhere fall in their favor. Bafana Bafana need a win to be sure of qualification, while Eric Chelle’s Rwanda will be pushing for a convincing victory to keep their slim hopes alive.
