Nation Mourns Former Minister and PDP Chairman, Audu Ogbeh

Tributes have poured in from across Nigeria following the death of Audu Ogbeh, former Minister and one-time National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ogbeh, who served in multiple administrations including as Minister of Communications during the Second Republic and Minister of Agriculture under President Muhammadu Buhari (2015–2019) died on Saturday morning at his Abuja residence. He was 78.

President Bola Tinubu extended condolences to Ogbeh’s family, friends, and associates, describing his passing as a loss to the nation.

Jonathan: ‘A life defined by patriotism and humility’
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in a statement by his media adviser Ikechukwu Eze, described Ogbeh as a distinguished public servant whose decades of service were marked by humility, intellect, and unwavering commitment to unity, democracy and development. He hailed Ogbeh’s contributions to agriculture and governance as a legacy that would inspire future generations.

Atiku: ‘A rare defender of democracy’
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remembered Ogbeh as “a quintessential gentleman” and “a detribalised, development-minded politician” who blended intellectualism with pragmatism. He prayed for the repose of Ogbeh’s soul and comfort for his loved ones.

Mark: ‘A forthright leader and dependable friend’
David Mark, Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said he lost a dependable brother and friend. He described Ogbeh as a rare leader who upheld truth, justice, and fairness, and remained morally upright even in adversity.

FRSC: Honouring a pioneer
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also paid tribute, recalling Ogbeh’s role as the first National Coordinator of the Special Marshals after the corps’ establishment in 1988. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described him as a visionary who championed citizen involvement in road safety, leaving a lasting foundation for volunteerism.

In messages of condolence, leaders across the country praised Ogbeh’s brilliance, integrity, and lifelong dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
