Phyna, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, is mourning the loss of her sister Ruth Otabor, who died after a serious road accident in Edo State which involved one of Dangote’s Group truck.

The Otabor family is mourning a heartbreaking loss as Ruth Otabor, sister to Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, has passed away following injuries sustained in a tragic road accident with one of Dangote’s Group truck.

Her death was confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday, August 31, 2025, by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who represent the family.

“It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved daughter, sister, and mother, on the 31st of August, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m.,” the statement read.

The accident that led to Ruth’s untimely death occurred earlier in the month, on August 13, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State—just days after she graduated from the institution. According to reports, a Dangote truck ran over her leg, causing severe injuries that resulted in an amputation, despite all efforts to save her.

Eyewitnesses said a bystander was the one who finally managed to stop the vehicle. In the wake of the incident, Phyna took to social media to demand justice, holding the Dangote Group accountable and accusing them of negligence.

While the company acknowledged responsibility and offered to cover medical expenses and provide compensation, tensions flared further when images of Ruth’s injuries were allegedly shared online by some staff members without the family’s permission.

Ruth’s death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community and social media, with fans, celebrities, and the general public expressing grief and calling for justice and accountability.

As the family processes this devastating loss, they’ve asked for privacy during their time of mourning. Details regarding the funeral will be announced at a later date.
