Gunmen Abduct FMC Owo Medical Worker, Union Threatens Protest

Confirming the development, a senior labour leader under the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) in FMC Owo, who asked not to be named, said the case had been reported to security agencies.

In a statement, the union expressed deep concern for Akesinro’s safety and called for urgent government and security intervention. It warned that members may have no choice but to embark on a protest in Owo if immediate action is not taken.

The union’s demands include the safe release of Pastor Akesinro, improved security across Owo and its environs to curb the rising spate of abductions—particularly of health workers—and stronger collaboration with security agencies to ensure the kidnappers are apprehended and prosecuted.

Describing the repeated attacks on health workers as “worrisome,” the union stressed that “an injury to one is an injury to all.”

As of press time, security agencies were said to be trailing the abductors.
