Ondo State Government Vows to Eradicate Cultism and Social Vices

In a decisive move to safeguard the future of its youth and preserve the moral fabric of society, the Ondo State Government has declared a renewed commitment to eradicating cultism and other social vices across the state.

This declaration was made in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, on Tuesday. The statement underscored the government’s zero-tolerance policy for criminal activities that threaten the state’s peace and developmental strides.

According to Ajanaku, the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa remains firm in its commitment to upholding the revered ‘Omoluabi’ ethos, values rooted in Yoruba tradition that emphasize respect, discipline, hard work, and a strong regard for life.

“The ‘Omoluabi’ values remain the bedrock of a peaceful and progressive society. We are calling on traditional rulers, politicians, student leaders, market women, religious leaders, and the general public to join hands with the government in rejecting cultism, political violence, kidnapping, and other destabilising behaviours,” the statement read.

Ajanaku described the recent surge in social vices as “alarming and unacceptable,” adding that such trends do not reflect the dignity and integrity traditionally associated with the people of Ondo State.

He further stressed that the government is not alone in this fight. “We call on parents, community leaders, and all stakeholders to be vigilant and proactive in guiding our youths as Ondo State cannot afford to be dragged into the mud of lawlessness.”

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of community involvement in crime prevention, stating that security, development, and investor confidence can only thrive in a stable and safe environment.

“The orientation must begin now. Every citizen has a role to play in upholding the ethics of good behaviour. Report crimes in your communities. Be ambassadors of peace and order. That is the way to build a safe, attractive, and economically vibrant Ondo State,” he added.

As the government intensifies efforts to curb these challenges, it is calling for a unified front, one that places the future of the state and its youth above all forms of destructive conduct.
