Amotekun Concludes Intensive Training to Boost Security Operations in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, widely known as Amotekun Corps, has concluded a three-day intensive training programme designed to sharpen the skills of its personnel in modern crime-fighting and security management. The exercise, held from Wednesday to Friday at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, drew participants from across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Declaring the programme open, the State Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering support in strengthening the corps. He explained that the training was strategically tailored to keep Amotekun officers ahead of criminals who now deploy sophisticated tactics, including the use of drones and disguises. According to him, sessions focused on intelligence gathering, information management, and advanced investigative techniques, while reinforcing discipline, professionalism, and adherence to lawful practices. Adeleye urged participants to translate the knowledge gained into improved field performance, stressing that the government’s investment in their welfare must be matched by tangible results.

One of the facilitators, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni of the Ondo State Judiciary—who presides over Chief Magistrate Court 4 in Akure, popularly known as the “Amotekun Court”—praised the initiative, describing retraining as indispensable to effective law enforcement. Magistrate Sekoni, who oversees most Amotekun-related cases, highlighted that the programme would close loopholes in case files, ensure greater respect for suspects’ rights, and enhance the prospects of successful prosecutions. “We reminded them of what they already know, but retraining is essential to sharpen skills. By the end of the year, there should be another session to sustain momentum” he said, recommending the creation of a feedback mechanism to measure progress.

He further encouraged other security agencies in Ondo State to emulate Amotekun’s proactive commitment to capacity building, noting that continuous retraining remains vital to professionalism in policing. The programme also introduced fresh innovations to strengthen the corps’ operational strategies, ensuring a more effective security response across the state.
