Ooni Assures Sunday Igboho of Support, Forgives Past Remarks

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for intervention over sanctions placed on him by the Federal Government. The activist, who has been on the Department of State Services (DSS) wanted list since July 2021 for allegedly stockpiling arms, lamented his inability to access his bank accounts and urged the monarch to intercede with President Bola Tinubu to remove his name from the wanted list.

Igboho, accompanied by associates and supporters, visited the Ooni at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on Saturday, where he apologised for his past verbal attacks against the monarch. “I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done to you. You are my father and you can’t do away with me. I know you have forgiven me going by this warm reception accorded us,” he said. He further pleaded: “I am still on the Federal Government wanted list, and I want you to help me clear my name. Also, my account is frozen and I want the embargo lifted. I know you are the one who can do it for me”.

The monarch added that efforts would be made to secure the activist’s freedom from government restrictions. “We are going to ensure that your name is removed from the wanted list. Ile-Ife is the source of the universe, and no one wants peace and the development of Yorubaland more than I do. However, when you associate with those who don’t like you, you must look for a solution. Let’s do away with fighting, it will not bring any good development to Yorubaland. That is why I keep calm most of the time” the Ooni said.
