First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Pledges Commitment to Nigerians’ Well-Being

Mrs Tinubu gave the assurance on Saturday after being conferred with the chieftaincy title of Iya Oba of Ikorodu in Lagos State. The honor was bestowed upon her by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, as part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary, which began on August 2.

Represented by the wife of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, the First Lady expressed gratitude to the monarch, royal families, and the people of Ikorodu for the recognition.
“This gesture is not only a personal honor but also a call to continued service. The title of Iya Oba carries with it not just prestige, but also responsibility” she said.

Acknowledging the cultural significance of the title, Mrs Tinubu described Ikorodu as a community with a rich heritage and a long history of producing generations of industrious citizens. She also praised Oba Shotobi’s leadership, commending his decade-long reign for fostering peace, progress, stability, and the preservation of cultural values.

“I congratulate Your Majesty and the people of Ikorodu Kingdom on your 10th coronation anniversary” she said.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North) also hailed Oba Shotobi’s leadership, noting that he had elevated many Ikorodu indigenes to national prominence and transformed the town from a rural community into a thriving business hub.

Other dignitaries, including the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa, also commended Oba Shotobi for his inclusive and impactful leadership over the past decade.
