INEC Warns Against Multiple Registrations Ahead of Continuous Voter Registration

This warning was issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Plateau State, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, during a stakeholders’ meeting on the resumption of the CVR nationwide.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Sadiq stressed that voter registration is not just a fundamental right but also a civic duty for every eligible citizen.

“No individual can participate in an election without proper registration. We urge all Nigerians who are 18 years and above and have not yet registered to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The commission will not tolerate multiple registrations; anyone caught will face serious consequences, including being completely struck off the register” Sadiq stated.

The REC announced that the CVR will begin on August 18, starting with the online registration phase. He encouraged residents who have previously registered to also use the period to collect their PVCs.

“The online registration can be done from any location at any time through the portal: http://www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. The exercise is primarily for new voters who have turned 18, as well as for the collection, transfer, or replacement of lost or damaged PVCs” he explained.

Sadiq further noted that measures have been put in place to ensure non-Nigerians do not participate in the CVR. He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to help mobilise and sensitise eligible residents to take part in the process.
