Ondo State Ranked Among Safest in Nigeria — UK Envoy Affirms

Ondo State has been reaffirmed as one of the safest and most peaceful states in Nigeria, following a recent report by the United Kingdom highlighting insecurity concerns in some parts of the country.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), made this known in an interview with newsmen. He referenced his engagement with the United Kingdom’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, who visited Ondo State recently.

According to the Commissioner, Ondo has consistently upheld its image as a haven of peace and remains one of the most secure states in the nation. This, he noted, makes it a preferred destination for both residents and foreign investors. “The envoy didn’t just pass through. He spent the night here, and importantly, he chose to stay outside government accommodation. For any UK diplomat to do that shows clear confidence in our security. No British official is ever allowed to stay in a location considered unsafe” Ajulo stressed.

He added that the envoy’s stay serves as evidence of Ondo’s stability and safety. “The UK recently released a list of unsafe states, and Ondo was not among them. The fact that the Deputy High Commissioner stayed here speaks volumes” he said.

With the festive season approaching, Dr. Ajulo assured visitors that Ondo State remains the safest place to celebrate Christmas and enjoy the holidays. “We are already seeing people returning home from across the world to spend the Yuletide in Ondo. The atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming” he added.

The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) had recently issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting parts of Nigeria affected by terrorism, violent crime, and communal clashes. While several states were listed as unsafe, Ondo State was notably excluded.

The advisory discouraged all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, and Zamfara, while limiting movement to essential trips in states such as Kaduna, Kano, Niger and Kogi. Despite these restrictions, Ondo State’s exemption reinforces its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most secure destinations.
