Tinubu Orders Emergency Evacuation of 271 Nigerians from South Africa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate voluntary evacuation of Nigerian nationals from South Africa ahead of today’s June 30 deadline set by anti-immigration vigilante groups.

The Logistics: An Air Peace aircraft departed Nigeria on Monday and is scheduled to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos this morning with the first batch of 271 returnees.

The Policy: Minister of Foreign Affairs officials stated that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” ensures evacuations will continue past the deadline for any citizen wishing to return. Emergency agencies (NEMA, NiDCOM, and Immigration) are currently on the ground in Lagos for profiling and health screenings.
