PDP Leadership Crisis: Court Fixes July 7 For Critical Hearing In Wabara-Led BoT Suit Against INEC

The legal battle for the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Justice Salim Ibrahim has officially slated July 7, 2026, for a definitive hearing in the suit filed by the Senator Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).  

The court has consolidated all pending joinder applications alongside the substantive suit to avoid further delays, ordering all parties to file and serve their remaining legal processes by July 6.  

The Core of the Legal Battle

The originating summons (marked ⁠FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026⁠) was filed on June 4, 2026, by a high-profile legal team led by Chris Uche, SAN. The plaintiffs include prominent PDP stalwarts:  

 Senator Adolphus Wabara (BoT Chairman / Former Senate President)  

 Dr. Babangida Aliyu (BoT Secretary / Former Niger State Governor)  

 Prof. Jerry Gana (Former Minister of Information)  

 Chief Olabode George (PDP Chieftain)  

The BoT is seeking a mandatory court order to compel INEC to officially recognize and publish the Kabir Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC) on the commission’s official website. The interim NWC names were initially transmitted to the electoral umpire on May 4, 2026, following deep structural divisions within the main opposition party.
