Sub-National Friction & Security Politics

State Police Debate: Discussions around the State Police Bill are dominating National Assembly discourse, with proponents like Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defending it as a national security imperative, while other civil groups warn against potential political abuse by state executives.

Rivers State Rhetoric: Governor Siminalayi Fubara has taken aim at the country’s leadership recruitment structures during a recent public address, attributing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges directly to a lack of “God-fearing leaders” in high offices.

Adeleke’s Security Directives: In Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke made headlines with an open, zero-tolerance directive to the Inspector General of Police, stating explicitly that security agencies should arrest anyone involved in local criminal activity—”even if it’s my own son.”
