Nigeria and DR Congo have advanced to the final round of the CAF World Cup qualifying play-offs after earning decisive victories on Thursday, setting up a high-stakes clash that will determine who moves one step closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria booked their place with a commanding 4–1 extra-time win over Gabon. The Super Eagles initially looked set to close the match in regulation time after Akor Adams scored in the 78th minute, yet a late equaliser from Mario Lemina forced the game into extra time.
Once there, Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead before Victor Osimhen delivered two clinical goals to seal the result and underline the team’s resilience.

DR Congo followed with a hard-earned 1–0 victory over Cameroon. The match remained finely balanced until late in the second half when Chancel Mbemba reacted quickly in the box to score the decisive goal. Cameroon pushed for an equaliser in the dying minutes but DR Congo stayed composed, defended with discipline and held on for a crucial win.
