Charlie Kirk Fatally Shot at Utah University Event, FBI Launches Manhunt

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, during a campus debate event at Utah Valley University in Orem. He was 31.

According to eyewitness accounts, Kirk was speaking at his “Prove Me Wrong” debate series when he was struck in the neck by a bullet around 12:20 p.m. MDT. More than 3,000 people were present when chaos erupted. Authorities believe the shot was fired from a rooftop of a nearby building.

The FBI and local law enforcement immediately launched a large-scale manhunt. A .30-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle and a spent cartridge were recovered near the suspected firing point. Surveillance footage shows a “person of interest” running across a roof before escaping into nearby woods.

Two people were briefly detained after the incident but later released, with police confirming they had no connection to the attack. A $100,000 reward has been announced for information leading to the identification and arrest of the shooter.

President Donald Trump ordered flags on federal buildings to be flown at half-staff in Kirk’s honor, while political figures across party lines condemned the killing.

Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012, growing it into a major conservative youth organization with strong influence on college campuses. Known for his confrontational debates and outspoken views on culture and politics, he had built a large following through public speaking and social media.

The attack has reignited debates over political violence and security at public events. Investigators have not yet determined whether the shooting was politically motivated.

The case resumes as a top priority for federal authorities, with officials urging anyone with information to come forward.
