APC Taunts ADC, Says Party Too Weak to Challenge in 2027

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday ridiculed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its ongoing leadership tussle, saying the opposition party lacked the capacity to govern itself, let alone challenge the APC in 2027.The crisis deepened after former Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, Nafiu Bala, declared himself the party’s “authentic” national chairman. Addressing journalists in Abuja, Bala argued that both the Electoral Act and ADC’s constitution positioned him as the rightful successor to Ralph Nwosu, who resigned months ago following the adoption of the party by an opposition coalition.

Upon Nwosu’s resignation, former Senate President David Mark was appointed interim chairman. Bala, however, rejected the arrangement, accusing coalition leaders, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of hijacking the party.“As far as our party is concerned, the constitution is clear. Once the national chairman resigns, the deputy chairman takes over. I have therefore resumed as the authentic national chairman of the ADC” he insisted.

ADC’s National Spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed Bala’s claims, branding him a “charlatan” seeking attention.“Anybody can call a press conference and claim to be chairman. This same person made similar claims weeks ago. Did he go to court? Did he report to the police? Which secretariat did he even take over? The ADC doesn’t even have a secretariat” Abdullahi said, accusing the media of amplifying baseless claims.

He also denied allegations of APC involvement in the crisis, stressing that the ruling party was focused on delivering President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The APC cannot stoop to creating problems for an opposition party already losing grip. In the recent by-elections, APC won 13 out of 16 contested seats. The ADC could not win even one. Clearly, it is not a force to reckon with” he added.
