FCSC Orders 3,598 Civil Servants to Undergo Re-Verification, Warns Against Fake Appointment Letters

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has directed 3,598 civil servants who failed to participate in the 2021 verification exercise to appear for a re-verification this month, warning that failure to comply will be taken as proof of holding fake appointment letters.

According to a document dated August 4, 2025 and obtained on Monday, the re-verification will run from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025 and will take place across designated venues in various ministries and government agencies. These include the Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Defence, Education, Justice, Works, Information, Science and Technology, Aviation, Finance, Interior, the State House, among others.

The FCSC emphasised that there will be no further extension of the deadline. Any officer who fails to appear will be considered to be in possession of a fake letter of appointment and deliberately avoiding detection. Officers who have already undergone verification recently are exempt.

The document revealed that the Ministries of Information (592 officers), Education (506), and Labour (440) have the highest numbers of affected staff. Others include Works (134), Industry and Trade (196), Health (158), Environment (237), Interior (24), Defence (28), and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (36). Officers posted out of their original ministries, on secondment, transfer, or study leave are also required to check their names and participate.

The re-verification exercise is part of the FCSC’s ongoing efforts to ensure the authenticity of federal employment records and uphold integrity in the civil service.
