Death Toll Rises After Powerful Earthquakes Strike Venezuela

At least 235 people have reportedly lost their lives and more than 4,300 others have been injured after two powerful earthquakes struck northern Venezuela, according to the country’s Health Minister, Carlos Alvarado.

Reports indicate that the back-to-back earthquakes caused widespread destruction, reducing buildings to rubble, damaging roads, and disrupting communication networks across several affected areas. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors trapped beneath collapsed structures as aftershocks complicate recovery efforts.

Authorities say thousands of people remain unaccounted for, while hospitals continue treating injured victims. Rescue operations have reportedly been slowed by damaged infrastructure and limited access to heavy equipment, forcing many residents to search through debris with basic tools.

The Venezuelan government has urged residents to remain vigilant as emergency responders continue search-and-rescue operations, warning that the casualty figure could rise as more affected communities are reached.
