Tinubu Approves Up to 80% Salary Increase for Armed Forces Personnel.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a salary increase of between 30% and 80% for about 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with the new pay structure taking effect from September 1, 2026.Under the revised structure, junior personnel from the rank of Private to Staff Sergeant will receive an 80% increase, Warrant Officers to Colonels will get 50%, while Brigadier Generals to Generals will receive a 30% increase.

The Presidency said the review is aimed at recognising the sacrifices of military personnel in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving troop welfare.The salary adjustment will increase the Armed Forces’ annual wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. Military personnel and retired officers have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the new salary structure will be implemented as scheduled.
