Lagos Residents to Experience Intermittent Power Supply as TCN Begins 25-Day Maintenance

Lagos Residents to Experience Intermittent Power Supply as TCN Begins 25-Day Maintenance

In an official statement via it’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, TCN disclosed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO) have approved the critical infrastructure upgrade.

The project, scheduled to run from July 28 to August 21, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily, involves the installation of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable. According to TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, “power will be restored after each day’s work, while other circuits remain operational to help maintain supply across the Lagos network.”

The upgrade, once completed, will support the full deployment of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system—enabling real-time grid monitoring and improved management of electricity distribution.

Similarly, Ikeja Electric (IE) issued a notice informing customers of the TCN-led exercise and its impact. “Customers may experience irregular power supply and load shedding across our network. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused,” the utility said.

Both distribution companies assured consumers that efforts are in place to minimise disruption and restore normalcy after each day’s maintenance window.
