Oba Ladoja Crowned 44th Olubadan Amidst Grand Ceremony in Ibadan

Ibadan — Today, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja is officially installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a ceremony held at the historic Mapo Hall.

The city has come alive with pageantry, dignitaries, and high security, as residents and visitors converge across Ibadan to witness the crowning of a monarch with deep political and traditional pedigree.

President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors, traditional rulers, and top political figures are among those expected to attend.

Security forces have mounted roadblocks on routes leading to Mapo Hall. Barricades have been placed on Beere Junction toward Idi-Arere, with strong presence around the venue to enforce decorum.

Earlier in the week, Ibadan held interdenominational prayers, cultural displays, and traditional rites for Ladoja. These served as preludes to the final coronation ceremony.

Governor Seyi Makinde cut short his leave to resume duties ahead of the event, signalling the state’s commitment to the historic occasion.

Ladoja, aged 81, becomes the first Olubadan from Arusa Compound and follows a structured path through Ibadan’s chieftaincy system. He succeeds Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died in July.
